BUSINESS COALITION LETTER ON WORKER NEEDSFrom high-tech to agriculture, business sectors unite to press Congress on immigration reform With Congress gearing up for a renewed debate on immigration, business coalitions representing a broad array of American industries came together in August to support the process and urge that lawmakers crafting reform take account of future U.S. workforce needs.
“We cannot forget [a] key element of effective reform,” the group stated in a letter to Immigration Subcommittee chairs Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Zoe Lofgren. “To truly fix the problem, a reform package must ensure that America’s economy will have the legal workforce it needs in the decades to come. It must create a legal system that is responsive to the U.S. economy.”
Among the groups that co-signed the letter: Compete America (representing employers of high-skilled workers), the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition (lesser-skilled workers), the Agriculture Coalition for Immigration Reform, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, the American Farm Bureau and ImmigrationWorks USA.
